The Hague Court satisfied the Embassy's claim on the incitement of hatred against Armenians

On 10 August the judicial hearings of the case brought by the Embassy of Armenia against Mr. Ilhan Ashkin, the president of the "Turkish-Azerbaijani Cultural Association" of the Netherlands, was held at The Hague District Court.

The basis for the latter were the separate complaints of the Embassy of Armenia and the Federation of Armenian Organizations in the Netherlands against Mr. Ashkin's anti-Armenian and hate-mongering publications and speeches. Ambassador T. Balayan was also present at the hearing.

The court sentenced Mr. Ashkin to a fine of 1,000 euros and a 2-month conditional sentence with a two-year probationary period under articles 137c and 137d of the Dutch Penal Code on charges of public insult and incitement to violence against Armenians.

The judge stated, in general, that in the event of a further offence the prison sentence will no longer be conditional.
